Avignion

♪橋の〜うえで〜輪になっておーどーるよー、橋の〜うえで〜……
という童謡が有名なアヴィニョン。
聖ヴィクトワール山のキャンプ場からは、車で一時間ちょいでした。
いく世紀か、ときのローマ法王は政治的な理由により、ヴァチカンからこの地に逃れていたのだそうです。

Sur le pont d'Avignion, on y dansen on y dansen (I am not sure of the text)...
This melody is even famous in Japan.
From our camping it was about one hour and a little more.
There were a couple of centuries wherein the Pope, for some political reasons,
has escaped to this city from Vatican.

というわけで、ときのローマ法王の旧宮殿です。
これじゃわからないけれど、写真に入りきれないほどでっかいです。

This used to be the palais for the Pope.
It was so huge that not all could be in the photo...

例の童謡の主題になっているアヴィニョン橋です。
半分流されて途中までの橋。十七世紀以降はほかの交通手段ができたので修復してません。
逆に印象深いかも。

This is the subject of that famous song, le pont d'Avignion.
Half is flown away, and since 17th century they keep it this way.
That it is halfway, gives stronger impression, I thought.
